Studies

He found his interest in journalism thanks to the media coverage of the Watergate Scandal; thanks to it he learned how much the media could influence the public opinion. He attended Yale University and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He also attended at the Columbia University, there he finished with a master’s degree as at the Graduate School of Journalism.

First Steps

His first job as a journalist was in an independent newspaper in Richmond, California. Then during the 1970s, he worked for the United Press International wire service as a reporter and editor. Apart from that he worked for two years, starting in 1980, for the New York Daily News. Working for this New York based newspaper he reported mostly on political news about the state government, city politics and the city hall; apart from that, he also delivered news about the city.

Television Work

He drifted to New York and there he landed his first ever television job. He worked as a reporter for Channel 5. Years passed and by 1986 he joined the team of ABC News. At the start of his career in this broadcasting company owned by The Walt Disney Company, he had to settle in Boston as he worked as a general assignment correspondent from there.

Apart from that, he also worked as a reporter and contributor for three of their news and information shows, World News, Good Morning America and Nightline. In the case of the show in the middle, he went from being one of the correspondents for being the host of the show.

He had also worked for Fox News New York, while he was living in New York City, New York. That channel belonged to Fox News, it was their New York affiliate.

His long time working for ABC News had led him to be the man covering various important events in recent history. Among those events, he covered the United States Presidential Campaigns of 1992 and of 2008. During the later he also covered the campaign of Senator John McCain. A few years before that he covered the Boston Catholic Church scandal. The legal procedure that was a media frenzy, the Elian Gonzales custody trial. He had also covered armed conflicts such as the Persian Gulf War and the Yugoslav conflict in Belgrade.

Recognition

Claiborne is a recognisable face in the media, reason for why this short version of his biography even exists. As an editor, correspondent and journalist, he has garnered a well earned good reputation. Something that is not hard to believe when his motto is: Delivery, Credibility and Authority. His coverage of the capture of Elian Gonzales in the city of Miami back in 2000 earned him an Emmy.
